Cantatas by Bach and Telemann
Joint baroque orchestra and soloists from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Georg Ots Tallinn Music College
Kapellmeister Heiko ter Schegget (Netherlands)
The opening concert is just as rich in symbolism as is early music in general. We have two composers side by side, one of whom was the indisputable favourite of 18th century audiences, the other becoming the most appreciated composer of our own time. The music itself is almost 300 years old, yet the interpretation is oriented towards the future. Today’s performers shape our and our offsprings’ musical taste for the next half century.
The venue of the concert is also symbolic. The youth orchestra will perform under the guidance of an experienced schoolmaster — in the noblest sense of the word — Heiko ter Schegget in the hall of Tallinna Reaalkool (Tallinn Secondary School of Science). It is a hall not usually associated with concerts, but its excellent acoustics will be a pleasant surprise to all.
