We owe the fame of polychorality to the composers active in Venice from the end of the 16th century, particularly in the Basilica of San Marco. However, large-scale experiments with multiple choirs seem to have taken place in Munich during the 16th century and came to Venice through the friendship between Orlando Di Lasso and Adriano Willaert (Chapel Masters in Munich and Venice respectively).
Our program includes works both from these two great Renaissance pillars and from the poly-choral musical splendor that exploded in Venice during the 17th century with composers such as the Gabrielis (Andrea and Giovanni), Claudio Monteverdi, Francesco Cavalli, Giovanni Rovetta, Giovanni Legrenzi and Johann Rosenmüller.
