Visions
Meditations and Fantasias around the music of Hildegard
26 November at 6 pm
White Hall, University of Tartu museum
27 November at 7 pm
Olav’s Hall, House of the Blackheads
At the heart of the concert Visions is the music of the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen, whose work has inspired musicians and thinkers for centuries and continues to do so today. The extraordinary radiance of her music and its ecstatic, free-flowing expressiveness set it apart in its own time and continue to sound remarkably fresh to modern listeners.
The programme places Hildegard’s music in dialogue with later works that share a similar spiritual sensibility.
For the first time, musicians from Livonia come together on stage:
Dārta Paldina — vocal (Latvia)
Anna-Liisa Eller — plucked psalteries, bagpipes and percussion
Taavi Kerikmäe — clavicymbalum, clavichord
The concert will feature Estonia’s first newly built clavicymbalum, crafted by Latvian instrument maker Kaspars Putriņš to a commission from Taavi Kerikmäe. Anna-Liisa Eller is one of the few performers of medieval plucked psaltery, playing instruments made by Peeter Talve.
